(for Mark & Bryan)
The whole room stole glances
Over newspapers, over spectacles,
Over shoulders, blatantly,
Constantly, while the two of you
Exchanged passionate kisses
Old couples mired you in comments
Bound by a generation.
I smiled reading poetry while
You talked of marriage and partnerships
And who would wear the dress
One or both of you?
Three young lads breezed in,
Mocked you, while secretly you fulfilled fantasies.
Just the two of you,
In that moment, in the coffee-shop din,
Before you left hand-in-hand, hurriedly,
Made the day wonderful, completely.
